U.S. Hopes for a Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire Within Weeks

U.S. Hopes for a Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire Within Weeks
The United States still hopes for a full ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war within the next few weeks, Bloomberg reports, citing its sources.

According to the agency, the White House aims to reach an agreement by April 20, when both Orthodox and Western churches celebrate Easter. However, U.S. officials acknowledge that major differences between the parties may cause delays.

Russia’s Demands and U.S. Position

Currently, Moscow is making maximalist demands even for a temporary ceasefire. In particular, Russia insists on a complete halt to arms supplies to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the U.S. has not agreed to any restrictions on its military aid to Kyiv. European leaders worry that Donald Trump might make concessions at Ukraine’s expense to achieve a diplomatic victory. However, Washington stresses that any agreement must be acceptable to Kyiv, and it is not willing to make excessive compromises.

Key Diplomatic Talks Underway

Today and tomorrow, American diplomats will meet with Russian and Ukrainian representatives in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Discussions will focus on:
🔹 A 30-day pause in attacks on energy infrastructure,
🔹 Potential restrictions on military operations in the Black Sea.

U.S. Special Representative Keith Kellogg previously stated that the negotiations will follow an indirect format – Russian and Ukrainian delegations will be placed in separate rooms, with U.S. officials acting as mediators.

Possible Meeting Between Putin and Trump

In mid-March, just days before a phone call between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, The Moscow Times reported that the Kremlin viewed Easter as a key date for a potential presidential meeting.

Sources claim that Moscow prefers to delay talks to gain more concessions from the U.S.. However, they also acknowledge that if negotiations drag on too long, Washington may lose interest.

The outcome of the upcoming talks could be a turning point in shaping the future of the conflict.
