Apple and Samsung face 25% import duties under Trump policy
US President Donald Trump has confirmed that the 25% tariffs initially directed at Apple will also apply to other smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung, reports 3DNews.

“This will be broader. It will apply to Samsung and everyone else who makes such products. Otherwise, it would be unfair,” Trump said during an interview at the White House.

The tariffs are expected to be formally enacted by the end of June, although no further details were shared.

Trump’s remarks followed a recent meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook, during which Cook mentioned plans to build factories in India. Trump responded that while production abroad is acceptable, companies won’t avoid tariffs unless they manufacture in the US.

This move poses a serious challenge for Apple and Samsung, as their supply chains are heavily based in Asia, and the US currently lacks the ecosystem to support such complex manufacturing.

Following Trump’s announcement, Apple shares dropped 3.9% on the New York Stock Exchange.
