
Former Dutch defender Ronni Stam may face up to 13 years in prison for his alleged involvement in smuggling more than two tons of cocaine, Omroep Brabant reported. According to investigators, Ronni and his brother Raddi are currently hiding in the UAE and are suspected of organizing international drug trafficking operations.
During his football career, the 40-year-old Stam played for Dutch clubs NAC Breda and Twente, England’s Wigan Athletic, and Belgium’s Standard. His sporting achievements include winning the Dutch championship with Twente in 2010 and lifting the FA Cup with Wigan in the 2012/2013 season. Stam was also called up several times to the Netherlands national team.
