Torpedo Executives May Face Up to 15 Years in Prison Over Bribery Case
One of the biggest scandals in Russian football in recent days is the bribery controversy surrounding the Torpedo club. According to official sources and RBC, the club’s owner Leonid Sobolev and director Valery Skorodumov are suspected in a criminal case under Article 291 of the Russian Criminal Code (bribery).

According to the investigation, they offered money to one of the referees in a First League match in order to secure a decision in favor of the club. Because of these actions, a criminal case was opened against them, and they now face up to 15 years in prison as a possible sentence.

On June 18, investigative authorities conducted searches at their offices and residences. The operation was carried out without much noise, and it was reported that a number of material pieces of evidence were collected. On June 19, Sobolev and Skorodumov were also summoned to the police and interrogated.

This incident became a major scandal following Torpedo’s recent sporting success. It should be reminded that the team finished second in the First League and managed to return to the Russian Premier League.

So far, club officials have not made any official statements, but it is clear that the incident has cast a significant shadow on the team’s reputation. Football fans are closely watching how the case will unfold. If the accusations are proven, Torpedo’s future could also become complicated.
