Iran is monitoring the results of attacks in Israel through private cameras
The increasingly tense conflict between Israel and Iran, which is in the focus of the world community, has also moved to a new stage in the field of cyberattacks. According to Bloomberg, in recent days Iranian special services have been attempting to access private surveillance cameras in Israel to analyze the accuracy and effectiveness of missile strikes.

Rafael Franco, former deputy director of Israel's National Cyber Directorate, says the following about this threat:

“In the past two or three days, Iranians have been trying to connect to cameras in order to monitor the results of their attacks, determine strike points, and make adjustments.”

Experts emphasize that the security of video surveillance systems is still not a priority for many users. Energy security specialist Pleg Wasserman commented on this as follows:

“Many people choose cameras based on price, not on security. However, besides personal use, cameras can transmit information that covers the entire city. This can become an extremely valuable source of information for the enemy.”

At the same time, officials in Israel are also calling on the public to protect their personal cameras. Cybersecurity specialists speaking on public radio are urging people to update passwords, strengthen protection, or, if necessary, temporarily turn them off.

According to Bloomberg sources, prior to the October 7, 2023, HAMAS attack, there were also recorded cases of unauthorized access to surveillance cameras placed on urban infrastructure facilities. This shows that this scheme has been used before as well.

It is known that on June 13, the Israeli government carried out an operation called “Rebellious Lion,” striking Iran’s nuclear facilities. After this, the Islamic Republic launched a retaliatory strike. For several days now, mutual strikes and cyberattacks between the two states have not stopped.

Against this background, it is clear that the importance of cybersecurity in today's global digital world has further increased. Any private or public cameras can turn into an “invisible eye” during large-scale military operations.

According to analysts, collecting information and analyzing the results of strikes via cameras has today become an integral part of military strategy.
