The world is worried: Will the Hormuz Strait be closed?
China is calling on the international community to preserve peace and stability around the Persian Gulf. This call comes amid sharply escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, including US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, and the growing risk of closing the strategically important point — the Strait of Hormuz.

At a press briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Go Zhiakun emphasized in his statement that the Strait of Hormuz is of decisive importance not only for regional but also for global economic stability.

According to him, a large share of the world’s oil imports — approximately a quarter — passes through this strait. This makes the region one of the key points of global energy security. If the strait is closed, inevitable disruptions in the global oil market, price increases, and deep downturns in the global economy will occur.

China considers this issue extremely serious, since about 45% of its oil needs are also met through the Persian Gulf. For this reason, Beijing views the political instability and military risks in the region as a threat not only to its national interests, but to the entire international community.

Go Zhiakun urged international forces — including the UN, the European Union, and other key global players — to intensify efforts to resolve the conflict peacefully, reduce tensions, and ensure stable security in the region.

Iran, for its part, insists on its right to close the Strait of Hormuz. According to Tehran’s statements, if attacks on its nuclear facilities continue, the country is prepared to take strategic countermeasures to ensure its own security and national interests, including the possibility of closing the strait.

Experts say that even a short-term closure of the Strait of Hormuz could cause sharp disruptions in oil supply worldwide and a rapid rise in prices within a few days. This would affect not only the energy sector but also global financial markets.

It is known that not only Iran, but also major oil exporting countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, and Iraq export oil through the Strait of Hormuz. Therefore, closing this route will have a significant impact on the economy of the entire region, including Asian countries.

Thus, China’s concern and its appeal to the international community to ensure stability are by no means accidental. Beijing is protecting not only its interests but calling on all states to cooperate and peacefully resolve the conflict.

The development of this situation represents a serious test for the world, both geopolitically and economically. At present, the most correct path is considered to be diplomatic conflict resolution, renunciation of military confrontation, and prioritization of the global economy’s interests.
