Another unusual event occurred in Russia’s agricultural sector — a local woman living in the Krasnodar region managed to grow a giant garlic head weighing nearly half a kilogram. This was reported by the RBC news agency.
The product's weight was exactly 485 grams, which is 10 times more than the weight of a regular garlic head. It is noted that ordinary garlic usually weighs around 30–50 grams. The local woman said that she personally grew this garlic, but did not share what agricultural techniques were used or how long it took to achieve the result.
“Elephant garlic” or a new variety?
Social media users suggest that this giant garlic may belong to the well-known “elephant garlic” (rocambole) variety. This variety is known as a hybrid of garlic and onion and usually weighs around 200–300 grams. However, this case is on another level.
So far, the official classification or recognition of this giant garlic has not been confirmed, but it has attracted the attention of many gardeners and food specialists.
World records and giants in Russia
This giant garlic is not the largest in the world. The current record belongs to American Robert Kirkpatrick — in 1985, he grew a garlic head weighing 1.19 kilograms, which was entered into the Guinness Book of Records.
In Russia, similar cases have also occurred. For example, in the fall of 2024, Saint Petersburg resident Yuliya Bogdanova grew a pumpkin weighing 226 kilograms, made a boat from it, and floated on Lake Strechino. Later, the pumpkin was used as animal feed.
Scientific and practical innovations in agriculture
This event sparked great interest among Russian gardeners and fans of agricultural products. Questions about the possibility of growing such large garlic on an industrial scale, about high-yield varieties, fertilization, and care methods have become relevant topics.
If this giant garlic was indeed grown using special selection or new technologies, then this experience may open a new stage in the agricultural field. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
