The Hamas movement has accepted a proposal developed by the US President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Whitkoff, AFP reported. The plan envisions a 60-day ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages in two phases.
According to sources, under the proposal Israel should release Palestinian prisoners and allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. The aim is to reduce regional tension, provide assistance to civilians, and prevent new crises.
AFP reports that the negotiations are being conducted with the mediation of Egypt and Qatar. Earlier, the Egyptian government stated that the final version of the proposal had been submitted to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israel has not yet provided an official comment.
For reference, since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, at least 62,004 people have been killed in Gaza. Most residents have been displaced several times, over 90% of homes have been destroyed, and health, water, and sanitation systems have failed. In the last 24 hours, 5 people, including 2 children, have died from hunger and war-related causes, bringing the total since the start of the war to 263.
Experts emphasize that the ceasefire proposal could help alleviate the emergency situation in the region and save civilian lives. The international community is closely monitoring this process.
