11-year-old Harvey from the United Kingdom amazed everyone — in just five months he independently learned to play the piano. His teacher was not an instructor or a music school, but tutorial videos on YouTube.
Harvey showcased his skills on the BBC by performing from memory the third movement of Beethoven’s famous “Moonlight Sonata.” According to him, music has a “healing” effect and brings various positive emotions. The young talent also gave small concerts at the nursing home where his mother works, bringing joy to the audience. “When people applaud, it feels really nice. It feels like your performance is being accepted,” Harvey said.
His mother, Jen, started posting videos of his playing on social media, and they quickly gained thousands of views. Soon Harvey was invited to study at a prestigious music school, where he has already started his lessons.
His teacher, Becky Smith, shared her impressions about the young pianist:
“When I first heard him, I thought: ‘Wow, we really have something special here.’ To reach this level of playing in just a few months is simply incredible. For his age, he has amazing dexterity, and his abilities are truly remarkable.”
His mother emphasized that she is very proud of her son. However, his passion for music came as a surprise to her. Previously, Harvey was more interested in design and computers, but now he spends several hours a day practicing the piano.
