Eastern England is experiencing the driest season in recent years. According to Anglian Water, only 165 millimetres of rain fell between February and July. This was the third driest period since 1899. Experts note that this situation is worsening water shortages.
The company is urging customers to use water sparingly. So far, no restrictions have been imposed in Eastern England on using water for garden irrigation. However, experts say such measures are needed to draw attention to the water shortage.
Specialists state that only prolonged rainfall can help nature recover. In their opinion, climate change is increasingly putting water reserves at risk.
In the first twenty days of August, only 10 millimetres of rain fell in Eastern England. Normally, an average of 60 millimetres should fall during this period. Meteorologists reported that only 53% of the expected rainfall came this summer.
Anglian Water advises people to temporarily stop washing cars and to be cautious when watering yards and gardens. The company stresses that using water wisely is vital for the future and highlights the need to leave as much water as possible in nature.
