Denmark Clarified Conditions for Recognizing Palestine

Denmark's Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, expressed her position on recognizing Palestine on August 24, during protest demonstrations in Copenhagen. According to her, if Palestine becomes a democratic state, Denmark is ready to recognize it as a state. Frederiksen stated: “We are not opposed to recognizing Palestine as a state, but of course, we must ensure that it will be a democratic state.”

In Copenhagen, more than 10,000 people took to the streets of the capital, calling for the cessation of the war in the Gaza Strip. These protests were an important event, not only aimed at raising Palestine’s prestige but also focused on bringing attention to mutual peace and democratic processes.

There are also other countries conducting research on recognizing Palestine. France, the United Kingdom, and Canada, as G7 countries, have declared their intention to recognize Palestine as a state. Discussions on this matter will continue in September at the UN General Assembly.

Currently, 147 countries, including Uzbekistan, have recognized Palestine, which has attracted attention to its international recognition. However, in 2024, the United States vetoed Palestine's full membership in the UN. In the following years, several other countries, including Ireland, Norway, Spain, and Armenia, recognized Palestine as a state.

Nevertheless, for further strengthening Palestine's position in international relations, cooperation between countries focused on democracy, peace, and human rights is crucial.
