The capabilities of the human body have not yet been fully discovered, and another proof of this has just emerged. Chinese scientists have presented a new technology that makes it possible to generate electricity from human body heat. This was reported by the “South China Morning Post.”
The researchers created an elastic material called “thermoelectric rubber.” It is made on the basis of semiconducting polymers and rubber and converts body temperature into electric power.
According to scientists, this material may bring significant changes to our lives in the near future. For instance, smart watches or earphones could be charged without a socket, solely from body heat. It is also suggested that it may be useful for charging phones or other devices in conditions without access to the power grid.
The application of the technology does not end there. Scientists are planning to integrate this material into “smart clothing” in the future. Such clothing would not only charge gadgets but also help regulate body temperature.
Interestingly, various sensors can also be embedded into the material. As a result, it could measure pressure, detect chemical composition, or monitor breathing. Experts note that such sensors could be used not only for health monitoring but also for virus detection or even in lung cancer diagnostics.
Chinese researchers emphasize that in the near future, smart masks could be developed based on this material. They would not only track the human respiratory system but also help detect different diseases at an early stage.
Thus, the invention called “thermoelectric rubber” may introduce a new perspective on energy sources and open up new opportunities in the healthcare sector as well.
