In the northern region of India - the state of Uttarakhand, the rainy season has led to enormous disasters. According to reports in the local press, at least 17 people have died in the last two days as a result of precipitation and landslides. At the same time, it is reported that more than 20 people are missing.
The natural disaster caused heavy floods mainly in mountainous areas. In the city of Dehradun, the transport system suffered serious damage. Due to the erosion of roads, rescue teams are facing significant difficulties in reaching certain areas. Also, the overturning of bridges on the Rispana and Bindal rivers complicated the delivery of aid to the victims.
Some residential buildings were destroyed, and hundreds of residents were forced to leave their homes. The government declared a state of emergency, temporarily closing schools and suspending the work of government agencies.
Rescuers are currently searching for the missing. Due to bad weather conditions, in some areas, assistance in search operations is provided only by helicopters. Local residents are being evacuated to safe areas.
