President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky made a firm statement in response to Russia's possible actions aimed at destroying the energy system during the autumn and winter seasons. According to him, if Moscow attempts to carry out a complete power outage in Ukraine’s capital, Russia’s own capital may face the same consequences.
"If, for example, there is a threat of a blackout in Kyiv, the Kremlin should know well – a blackout may also occur in Moscow," Zelensky said during a briefing with journalists.
According to the Ukrainian leader, there is no place for diplomatic politeness against the backdrop of threats employed by Russia. – "If the Russians make threats, there is no need to be cautious in rhetoric with them. I think dealing civilly with uncivilized people is not the right way, neither in rhetoric, nor on the battlefield, nor in any serious steps towards Russia," Zelensky said.
The head of state also emphasized that Russia must realize – civilized countries never initiate aggression and never become the aggressor. However, this does not mean they are weak or powerless.
As a reminder, in August the Russian Armed Forces intensified attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy, as the heating season approaches, Russia is deliberately pursuing a policy of destroying energy facilities. In just 10 days of August alone, 20 strategic sites – electrical substations, thermal power plants, and oil refineries – were hit.
At the same time, Ukrainian forces have also been striking Russia's oil refineries with drones. As a result of these strikes, some enterprises have partially or completely stopped, leading to fuel shortages and price increases.
This firm position of Zelensky once again demonstrated that Ukraine is ready to take symmetrical measures against Russia's increasing pressure and attacks.
