The President proposed an effective method for increasing the birth rate

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung put forward a new initiative to increase the birth rate in the country. In his opinion, creating a stable balance between work and personal life for young people is the key to overcoming the demographic crisis. This was reported by Bild.

The President cited the study "Long working hours prevent young people from combining careers and families." It was noted that South Koreans work an average of 1874 hours a year, which is 130 hours more than the OECD average.

Therefore, the government plans to reduce working hours from 40 hours to 36 hours per week by 2030, and then introduce a 4-day work week. Most importantly, the salary will not change.

Trade unions supported this initiative, calling it "the only measure that will lead to an increase in the birth rate." However, business circles emphasize that this change could affect economic growth.

For information, South Korea is the country with the lowest birth rate in the world. Currently, there are an average of 0.75 children per woman. Therefore, the new reforms are expected to be an important step towards the country's demographic stability.
