An avalanche that occurred on the morning of November 2 in the Yalung Ri mountains in Nepal's Himalayas ended in disaster, Reuters reported.
According to official data, three people died as a result of the incident, and contact with eight other climbers was lost. One of the deceased is said to be a foreign citizen.
According to police, when a group of 15 international climbers and local leaders headed towards the mountain around 9:00, an unexpected avalanche overtook them.
Rescue operations began late - the dispatch of aid was interrupted because local authorities delayed permission for the helicopter's flight. Later, a special group consisting of the police, army, and armed forces was involved in search and rescue operations.
"Due to snowfall and sharp deterioration of weather conditions, the helicopter was unable to reach the scene," police representatives said.
Currently, the causes of the incident are being investigated. According to experts, the level of risk associated with weather change in mountainous areas is high, and in recent months, the number of avalanches in the Himalayas has sharply increased.
