China to implement new measures to increase birth rates

The Chinese government plans to introduce a 13% tax on contraceptives as a new measure to increase its birth rate. This was reported by Bloomberg.

Previously, due to the "one family - one child" policy in effect in China since 1993, contraceptives were exempt from all taxes. However, in recent years, China has experienced population decline for three consecutive years. In 2024, only 9.54 million babies were born in the country, which is less than half of the 18.8 million births recorded a few years ago when the "one family - one child" policy was abolished.

In order to increase its birth rate and support social services, the government decided to abolish taxes on services provided to parents. This measure is part of China's efforts to stabilize its population and restore growth rates.
