The Ukrainian delegation has concluded its talks with representatives of the US and the European Union in Miami. This was reported by the head of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustam Umerov on his Telegram page. Now, separate talks between the US and Russia are expected to take place in this area.
As reported, the meeting took place on Friday, December 19. Umerov, who headed the Ukrainian delegation, did not dwell on the details of the talks, but noted that Kiev's European partners also participated in the talks. According to him, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was informed about the results of the discussions.
— We have completed the meeting with our American and European partners in the US. We have reached an agreement on the next steps and the continuation of joint work in the near future, — wrote Umerov.
It is noted that these talks were organized as a continuation of the developments discussed at the meeting between the Ukrainian and US delegations in Geneva on November 23. These documents were prepared on the basis of the concept of the so-called “Trump’s plan for Ukraine”.
On December 20-21, a Russian delegation is expected to arrive in Miami. It will be headed by the special representative of the Russian president, Kirill Dmitriev. According to the plan, he will hold talks with the special representative of the US president, Steve Witkoff, and Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
According to reports, the US side is offering Ukraine certain security guarantees in the event of an end to the war that Russia has started. However, one of the most controversial issues remains the demands for the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which Russia does not yet fully control.
According to the AFP agency, this issue was raised at previous meetings in Berlin. The Kremlin openly put forward these demands and does not rule out the possibility of using force if they are not met. Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated these claims during the next “direct line” on December 19.
Ukraine, however, is firm in its position. Zelensky stressed that Kiev does not recognize the Donbass territories as Russian either de facto or de jure. According to him, the United States is currently trying to find a compromise solution to this issue.
This diplomatic activity in Miami suggests that new developments may occur in the international political arena in the coming days.
