The issue of appointing a successor is still open in Iran

Iran has postponed the process of appointing a successor to the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed due to security threats. The New York Times reported this, citing an Iranian official.
According to the publication, concerns about the safety of Ayatollah Khamenei's son, Mojtaba Khamenei, have intensified following his mention as a potential successor. Therefore, Tehran is reportedly refraining from making hasty decisions on this matter.
The report notes that Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that any new leader appointed by Iran to replace Khomeini could "become a target." US President Donald Trump called Mojtaba Khamenei's candidacy unacceptable and said he wants to see a person who brings harmony and peace to Iran.
As a reminder, on February 28th, reports emerged that the US and Israel had launched a military operation against Iranian territory, after which tensions in the region intensified. Against the backdrop of these events, several countries in the Middle East have temporarily closed their airspace.
