Russian regions reported overnight attacks

Russian officials stated that air defense had repelled another wave of drone attacks overnight, while Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that 39 drones flying towards the capital were destroyed between 10:00 PM on March 16 and 6:20 AM on March 17, Moscow time. In a series of posts on Telegram, Sobyanin did not specify which objects were targeted or in which districts of the Moscow region drones were intercepted.

The latest claims came after Sobyanin stated earlier on March 16, that over the past two days, air defense forces have shot down about 250 "enemy drones" approaching Moscow and moving along the city's secondary defense line. The Russian state news agency TASS described the attacks carried out from March 14 to 16 as the largest attack on Moscow in the past year.

Officials of the Moscow region have so far released limited details. Regional Governor Andrey Vorobyov did not openly comment on the latest attack that occurred during the night before the reports were published. As a result, it remains unclear whether the targets of the intercepted drones near the capital were infrastructure, places related to military facilities, or civilian areas.

Other regions of Russia also reported damage and casualties. In the Belgorod region, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that Korocha was hit by a drone on the night of March 17. According to his statement, five people were injured when the drone exploded near a social facility, but he did not specify what type of building it was. He added that all five of them refused hospitalization.

In the Bryansk region, Governor Alexander Bogomaz said that three people were injured as a result of a night drone attack. According to him, three residential buildings and one car were damaged. Further northwest, the governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, reported that four drones were shot down in the morning of March 17 in the sky over the southwestern part of the region, but he did not give details about possible damage or other consequences.

A new wave of reports indicates that the use of long-range drones in the conflict continues, and such attacks are becoming increasingly frequent within Russian territory. While officials emphasized successful interceptions, they provided little information about the drone's routes, launch points, or targeted targets.
