Kyrgyz Qur’an Reciter Becomes World Champion

Kyrgyz Muҳammadali Qur’an reciter Umarov won first place at the international Qur’an competition. This was reported by the press service of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan.
The competition took place on March 17 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. More than 10,000 candidates from around the world expressed a desire to participate. Of these, 2,000 successfully passed the selection and participated in the contest. 64 participants reached the final stage and demonstrated their knowledge and skills over eight days.
The main requirements of the competition were full memorization of the Qur’an and strict adherence to tajweed rules. The final prize positions were distributed as follows:
1st place — Kyrgyzstan
2nd place — USA
3rd place — Egypt
4th place — Syria
5th place — Sweden
The winner received a cash prize of 50,000 Saudi riyals (approximately 13,000 dollars). Muҳammadali Qur’an reciter Umarov stated that he considers his victory the result of the prayers and support of the entire Kyrgyz people. He thanked the Creator for the opportunity to take first place on the world stage again.
For reference, Muҳammadali Qur’an reciter Umarov is currently a 4th-year student at the Qur’an Faculty of Medina Islamic University. Previously, on September 22, 2022, he also won the world competition in Mecca, where representatives of 111 countries participated, and received a cash prize of 250,000 riyals.
