A plane and a fire truck collided in New York, there are casualties

At LaGuardia Airport in New York City, at 23:30 local time (8:30 Tashkent time on Monday), an Air Canada Express regional jet aircraft collided with a fire truck moving at the airport during landing. As a result, the chief pilot and the second pilot of the aircraft crew died.

According to NBC News, several passengers and airport staff were injured during the incident. According to Reuters, police officers were also in the fire truck: one sergeant and one police officer had broken bones, they were taken to the hospital, and their condition is stable.

According to preliminary information, the CRJ-900, operated by Jazz Aviation, a partner of Air Canada Express, was carrying 72 passengers and four crew members from Montreal. According to the Flightradar24 flight tracking portal, the aircraft struck the fire extinguisher at a speed of approximately 39 km/h.

Photographs taken by Reuters show the aircraft's nose tilting upwards and cuts. According to the New York and New Jersey Port Authority, the fire truck collided with the plane while responding to another emergency call at the airport's 4th runway. Officials have not yet issued an immediate statement regarding the deaths and injuries.

The US Federal Aviation Administration announced that the airport will be closed until 2:00 PM on Monday. 18 flights were redirected to other airports or changed their route, mostly to other airports in the New York area.

For information, LaGuardia Airport served more than 30 million passengers per year in 2025, and many US airlines operate there.
