Kazakhstan plans to stop importing electricity from Russia

Kazakhstan plans to completely stop importing electricity from Russia starting in 2027. This was announced by the country's Deputy Minister of Energy, Sungat Yesimkhanov.

He stated that if the planned energy facilities are commissioned on time, the country will be able to independently meet its domestic needs.

At the same time, it is emphasized that this plan will be implemented without waiting for the completion of the nuclear power plant construction. According to official data, 123.1 billion kWh of electricity was produced in Kazakhstan in 2025.

Consumption volume amounted to 124.6 billion kWh. Currently, a portion of the existing deficit is covered through imports from Russia.

It is reported that part of the imported electricity is also re-exported to Kyrgyzstan.
