Sanctions Against ‘Masha and the Bear’ Creators Spark Debate

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on Ukraine’s sanctions against the creators of the animated series ‘Masha and the Bear’.
According to Zakharova, Kyiv’s decision raises questions about the Ukrainian government’s priorities.
“It appears that Zelenskyy believes this is the only way to change the situation at the front,” Zakharova told TASS.

Earlier, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov also commented on the sanctions imposed against the creators of the animated series.
Peskov described the decision as another manifestation of Kyiv’s policy.
“This probably once again shows the ugliness of the Kyiv regime,” the Kremlin representative said.
Who was sanctioned?
Vladimir Zelenskyy’s decrees imposed restrictions on the creators of the animated series ‘Masha and the Bear’.
The sanctions list includes:
5 Russian citizens;
4 legal entities;
including the Animaccord animation studio.
The restrictions will remain in effect for 10 years and may restrict access to the animated series in Ukraine.
About ‘Masha and the Bear’
‘Masha and the Bear’ is a Russian animated series created by the Animaccord studio. Its first episode aired on January 7, 2009.
The project’s creators include animator and concept author Oleg Kuzovkov, Animaccord’s majority shareholder Sergey Kuzmin as well as the series’ producer and the studio’s managing director Dmitry Loveyko .
Thus, sanctions imposed against the creators of the popular children’s animated series have become another subject of political disputes between Russia and Ukraine.
