
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is delivering a speech at a solemn ceremony dedicated to the launch of facilities and large projects in the energy sector.
In his speech, the head of state emphasized the need for fundamental reform of the energy system and its adaptation to modern requirements in the context of rapid economic growth and population growth in Uzbekistan.
"Today, we are implementing large-scale reforms in the energy sector, taking into account the rapidly growing economy and the needs and demands of the population," the President said. - We have set two important goals as our main task in this direction. The first is to establish reliable and uninterrupted energy supply for all sectors and regions. The second is to implement this plan using modern, environmentally friendly, and renewable alternative sources.
The head of state noted that in recent years, $35 billion in foreign investment has been attracted to the energy sector. On this basis, new capacities of 9 thousand megawatts have been commissioned.
As a result, the volume of electricity production in the country has increased from 60 billion kilowatt-hours in 2017 to 85 billion kilowatt-hours this year.
The President emphasized that the development of renewable energy sources is a special priority. As reported:
- solar and wind power plants with a capacity of about 5 thousand megawatts have been commissioned;
- Hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of 400 megawatts have started operating;
- the share of "green" energy in the total generation capacity will reach 30% by the end of this year.
During his speech, the President also touched upon plans for the construction of new energy facilities, the implementation of large joint projects with foreign partners, and the further increase in the share of "green" technologies.
