Driverless taxis - robotaxis - have officially launched in Doha, the capital of Qatar. This was announced by the country's national transport operator, Mowasalat (Karwa). The main goal of the project is to make urban transport modern, safe, and efficient.
It turned out that the robot taxi can be ordered through the Karwa mobile application. After the user chooses the route, the system identifies a nearby driverless taxi and suggests the same vehicle for the trip.
When the taxi arrives at the destination, all interactions with the passenger - starting the movement, managing the trip, and ending the trip - are carried out entirely through the mobile application. The car has no driver, and control is carried out using advanced autonomous technologies.
Officials emphasized that this project is an important step towards the development of autonomous transport. The robot taxi service is implemented within the framework of Qatar's long-term strategy - the Qatar National Vision 2030 program, and is strictly controlled by the country's Ministry of Transport.
Robotaxies are driven by modern sensors, artificial intelligence, and automatic control systems. This is aimed at ensuring safety, comfort, and time savings for passengers.
