JLR does not oppose Chery bringing the Freelander brand to the UK

JLR's new CEO PB Balaji stated that the British manufacturer will not block Chery from bringing vehicles under the Freelander brand to the UK market. These crossovers, manufactured in China, are not expected to compete with JLR's existing products. This is reported by Autocar.co.uk reports .

The Freelander 8 model was introduced in early May and is the first in a new series of vehicles to be sold globally. Chery plans to introduce a new model every six months over the next five years. This project is being implemented within the framework of a long-term partnership between the two companies.

JLR has licensed the right to use the Freelander name to Chery and participated in the design, but the engineering and assembly of the vehicles are entirely the responsibility of the Chinese company. Initial sales will begin in China, with export matters to be resolved later.

PB Balaji emphasized that the pricing and positioning of Freelander and JLR products are different. According to him, these vehicles will not compete with the Discovery and Defender models, but rather serve to expand market opportunities.
