Marvel Studios and the creators of “Spider-Man: A New Day” have prepared unexpected news for MCU fans. It has been revealed that a new antagonist will appear on screen in the movie, reports Peopletalk.
In the new film, Mavrin Jones III will appear as the rival to main character Tom Holland. He will play a character called “The Gravedigger.” The actor had previously voiced this hero in the animated film “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”.
In the comics, “The Gravedigger” is known as one of the leaders of New York’s criminal underworld and as an opponent in Peter Parker’s battles. It is also planned that he will appear in the animated film “Spider-Man: Beyond the Universe”.
It should be reminded that work on the new film about the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man began in August 2025. Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Zendaya (Mary Jane), and Jacob Batalon (Ned) are returning to the project. Another interesting piece of news — rumors are spreading online about who might play the role of “Green Goblin” in the new film. It is also being discussed that Mark Ruffalo, as Hulk, could appear in an even more menacing form in the continuation of the franchise.
The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. The screenplay is written by the experienced duo Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The movie is scheduled for worldwide release on July 31, 2026.
