Uzbekistan significantly increased potato imports in the first eight months of 2025, the National Statistics Committee reported.
From January to August, a total of 490.8 thousand tons of potatoes were imported from 11 countries. Its value amounted to 49.7 million dollars or about 613.5 billion soums. This is 9.1% more than in the same period last year.
Pakistan became the leading supplier with 299.4 thousand tons. Almost two-thirds of the total imports came from this country.
110 thousand tons of potatoes were imported from Kazakhstan, 34.8 thousand tons from Afghanistan, 18.1 thousand tons from Kyrgyzstan, and 15.4 thousand tons from Russia. The remaining 13.1 thousand tons came from other countries.
Statistical data show that the domestic demand for potatoes in the country is high. This emphasizes the need to expand local agricultural production and increase reserve capacities.
