Unexpected result about gossip: scientists are surprised!

Researchers at the University of California have reached an interesting conclusion — couples who regularly talk about other people tend to be more satisfied with their relationships. This was reported by PsyPost.

The study involved 76 couples from Southern California who had been living together for at least one year. Each participant was given a special recording device to capture conversations, which they wore over two weekends. As a result, nearly 100,000 audio clips of conversations at home, at work, and among friends were collected.

During the analysis, experts identified fragments where the couples discussed other people. These instances were classified as gossip. It turned out that almost all couples spend an average of 38 minutes a day talking about others.

After the experiment, participants completed a questionnaire assessing their satisfaction with their personal lives. The results showed that couples who gossip more frequently are significantly more satisfied with their relationships.

Scientists note that although talking about others is often viewed negatively, this process helps strengthen trust between partners and enhances their social connections.
