Passenger flow in Tashkent public transport to reach 2 million

Major reforms have been launched in our capital, Tashkent, to fundamentally improve the public transport system and create maximum convenience for passengers. According to information provided by the Deputy Mayor of the city, Abdurakhmon Bakhtiyev, the rapid growth of the capital's population necessitates a further expansion of the transport system.
Currently, the 1,900 buses in service cannot fully meet the city's needs. Therefore, by the end of 2026, it is planned to establish 16 new routes on the streets of Tashkent.
New opportunities for millions of passengers
The main goal of the reforms is to increase the daily number of passengers from the current 1.4 million to 2 million by increasing the attractiveness of public transport. This will not only reduce traffic congestion but also ensure that residents reach their destinations quickly and safely.
Gross contracts and regional updates
The “gross contract” system, which has fully proven its effectiveness in Tashkent, will now be applied on a wider scale:
Coverage: This system will be introduced on routes connecting Tashkent city and Tashkent region, as well as in the historic city of Khiva.
Changes in the regions: In the Kashkadarya region, to connect remote villages with district centers, more than 100 new buses will be purchased.
Tashkent region: As a result of the extension of industry benefits, the regional transport fleet will be enriched with another 230 new vehicles.
Digital future: Cashless payments
Important steps are also being taken toward the digitalization of the transport sector. In the near future, cash payments for fares will be completely abandoned. Additionally, regional dispatch centers will be established to monitor and manage traffic remotely.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to accelerate work in this sector and ensure that public transport is not only convenient but also safe for every citizen. Such large-scale updates are expected to completely transform the appearance of the capital and the regions in the coming years.
Do you think the opening of new routes will solve the traffic congestion problem in the city?
