Trump: If you want to stop the war, you have to talk to both sides
US President Donald Trump addressed both houses of Congress on Tuesday for the first time in his second term as the current head of the White House.

He spoke about the achievements he has achieved in his month and a half in office, his work on peace in Ukraine, his plans for the Panama Canal and Greenland, and also threatened to impose new tariffs on imported goods.

"We have accomplished more in 43 days than most administrations have accomplished in four years or eight years. And this is just the beginning," Trump said at the beginning of his speech.

Trump said he had already signed nearly 100 executive orders and taken more than 400 actions, setting a record for the United States in "restoring common sense."

He also announced retaliatory tariffs against countries that have imposed excessive tariffs on American goods.

"India is putting over 100 percent on our cars, China is putting twice as much as we put on them, and Europe is doing the same. That ends on April 2nd," Trump said.

He said the United States was no longer willing to tolerate unequal trade conditions. He said he would cut taxes for domestic manufacturing and the entire manufacturing industry, and would give businesses 100 percent of their costs. Trump also said the number of illegal immigrants entering the United States had fallen to a record low.

The US President, commenting on the conflict in Ukraine, said that it is time to stop this madness, murder and senseless conflict.

"It is time to stop this madness. It is time to stop the murder. It is time to end this senseless war," Trump said in his address to Congress.

He noted that he would make "relentless" efforts to end the fighting in Ukraine and continue to communicate with both sides.

According to him, during negotiations with Moscow, the American side received "strong signals" about its readiness to establish peace. "Wouldn't that be a wonderful result?" the president asked.

Donald Trump also announced that he had received a letter from Volodymyr Zelenskyy stating that he was ready to sit down at the negotiating table to establish peace in Ukraine as soon as possible.

"Today I received an important letter from Zelensky... Ukraine is ready to sit down at the negotiating table as soon as possible to achieve lasting peace," Trump said.

He stressed the need to end the conflict as soon as possible and that this requires cooperation from all sides. "If you want to stop the war, you have to talk to both sides," the US leader added.
