Eldor Shomurodov, the striker of the national team of Uzbekistan and the Italian club "Roma", became a guest of the 90minutuz podcast.
- When we talked to you in the summer before the Olympics in France, your career at "Roma" was under question. Now we are talking about you as the best player of "Roma" in February...
- Football is interesting in this way. In the summer, I didn't know anything about my future. I could have moved to another club. In the winter, after the change of coaches, I was one step away from moving to another club. In the end, I stayed at "Roma" and was named player of the month. Everything has changed for the better. Footballers only need to train and think about the game, and what the future will be is up to God.
- What is the role of the coach? Ranieri's role?
- Of course, the role of the coach is important. Because the coach talks more with the player or knows him better, it becomes much easier for the player. I worked with Ranieri last year, so it is easier for me to understand him. Ranieri never puts too much pressure on the player, he tells him to play football from the heart. He says that everyone has tactical and technical problems, even I make mistakes. He wants the players to give their all on the field.
- After Dovbik got injured, Ranieri trusted you and you took full advantage of your opportunity. That's why you have now become a player in the first team. What do you think about this idea?
- I also felt a change in myself mentally. Anyway, when a person approaches 30, he starts to become smarter. 3 years ago, my thoughts about football and training were different. Even though I was on the bench a lot, I learned a lot. I learned how to be in a good mood when I came out of the bench. With a player, the mental state is more important than the physical state. Because if you are mentally prepared, you can perform well in a match even if you are not physically prepared.
In the summer, I even trained separately from the club because there was a high possibility that I would leave Roma. During the training sessions, I gave my all so that my conscience would be clear whether I left or stayed. The coach at the time, De Rossi, saw this and in the end decided to keep me in the team.
