In the fourth stage of the 2026 World Cup Asian qualifiers, the Qatar national team achieved an important victory on home soil. Julen Lopetegui’s men defeated the UAE 2–1 and became the next participant of the upcoming World Cup.
The match was intense and fast-paced. The first half ended goalless, but early in the second half Qatar began to play more aggressively. In the 49th minute, Huhy opened the scoring with a precise shot, and in the 74th minute, Pedro Miguel doubled the team’s advantage.
The UAE national team became more active in the final minutes, and in the 90+8th minute, Odil scored to reduce the gap, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the match.
Thus, with 4 points, Qatar became the 24th team to qualify for the World Cup. The UAE, with 3 points, remained in second place in Group B and will continue its fight in the playoff stage.
This will be Qatar’s second World Cup appearance — the first was in 2022 when the country hosted the tournament.
