The Egyptian-Benin match in the round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations held the fans until the last seconds with its intrigue. In the match held at the Adrar Stadium, the "Pharaohs" secured victory with great determination and experience, securing a place in the quarter-finals.
In the main part of the match, the teams exerted strong pressure on each other, and the situation turned into a fighting draw. Marwan Attia opened the scoring in the 70th minute, putting Egypt ahead. Benin, however, didn't give up: in the 83rd minute, Jodel Dossu equalized, giving his team hope. In this situation, the game reached the point where "who will make the first mistake now?"
However, in extra time, the Egyptian national team showed its experience in major tournaments. In the 97th minute, Yassir Ibrahim put his team ahead again. Benin did not stop fighting even after this shot, but at the end of extra time, Egyptian captain Mohamed Salah put the final point - 3:1. This goal, scored in the 120+4th minute, was not only a victory for the "Pharaohs" but also a relief.
Thus, Egypt, the seven-time champion of the continent, advanced to the quarterfinals. Now, Salah's team will face the winner of the Ivory Coast vs. Burkina Faso match. In short, Egypt has openly stated its goal in the tournament: they will go all the way for the cup this time as well.
