Chelsea miss out on European football after defeat to Sunderland

The end of the current season has turned into a real disaster for Chelsea. In the final round of the Premier League, the London club lost 2-1 away to Sunderland. Following this result, Chelsea finished 10th in the league table and were completely deprived of the right to participate in European competitions next season. This is reported by Goal.com .
The match began with active attacks from the hosts. Cole Palmer could have opened the scoring in the 4th minute, but his shot was saved by the goalkeeper. In the 25th minute, Trai Hume hit the near corner accurately to put Sunderland ahead. In the first half, the Londoners tried to equalize through Joao Pedro, but his shot went wide.
At the start of the second half, the disorganization in Chelsea's defense continued. In the 50th minute, Malo Gusto accidentally scored an own goal, making it 2-0. Shortly after, Cole Palmer managed to narrow the deficit with a powerful long-range strike, giving his team hope.
However, in the 61st minute, Wesley Fofana received a second yellow card and was sent off, ruining all the visitors' plans. Down to ten men, Chelsea could not equalize until the end of the match. Thanks to this victory, Sunderland secured a spot in the Europa League for next season, while the Londoners finished the season without trophies or European football.
