The European Commission imposed a €120 million fine on the "X" (formerly Twitter) platform, accusing it of violating the European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA). This is the first official fine imposed for non-compliance with the DSA.
According to officials, the system of accounts verified by the "blue mark" on the platform is misleading users and forcing them to believe false information. Because the procedure for issuing the blue mark is not transparent, which leads to fraud, identity theft, and other manipulative situations.
The European Commission also called "X":
- insufficient transparency of advertising,
- also criticized for not providing public information necessary for the investigation.
Experts say that DSA aims to protect users from misleading practices, which is why strict measures have been taken against "X."
