SpaceX may build a $119 billion Terafab chip factory in Texas

SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, plans to build a massive semiconductor manufacturing plant in Grimes County, Texas. The project involves an initial investment of $55 billion, with a total projected cost of up to $119 billion. This facility, dubbed "Terafab," is expected to be a vertically integrated production hub based on advanced computing technologies. This is reported by Techcrunch.com .
Tesla will also contribute resources to this initiative. Additionally, chip manufacturing giant Intel is involved in the project. The main goal of this collaboration is to develop chips necessary for AI servers, satellites, space-based data centers, as well as Tesla's autonomous vehicles and robots.
Elon Musk stated that existing semiconductor manufacturers cannot keep up with the needs of his companies. "We either build Terafab, or we run out of chips," the billionaire wrote on social media. According to him, the plant should eventually have the capacity to produce chips equivalent to 1 Terawatt of power per year.
Currently, Grimes County is one of several locations being considered for this plant. The project aims to provide sufficient computing power to train xAI's Grok artificial intelligence models. The combined market value of SpaceX and xAI is estimated at $1.25 trillion, and the company plans to go public in June.
