Origin Lab raises $8 million to sell video game data for AI

As artificial intelligence systems interact with the physical world, creating "world models" for robotics and spatial modeling has become a critical task. However, unlike large language models, these systems lack high-quality datasets. The startup Origin Lab proposes using resources from the video game industry to solve this problem. According to Techcrunch.com, reports.
The company raised $8 million from investors led by Lightspeed Ventures. These funds will be used to develop a platform that acts as a bridge between video game developers and AI labs. Origin Lab converts game assets into a format suitable for training artificial intelligence.
Currently, organizations like AMI Labs, led by Yann LeCun, or Fei-Fei Li's World Labs are in need of high-quality data. Origin Lab allows video game companies to monetize their existing digital assets while providing AI labs with licensed, high-quality data.
In the past, companies like OpenAI faced issues due to the unauthorized use of game videos from the Twitch platform. Origin Lab aims to make this process legal and systematic. As Faraz Fatemi noted, the success of companies like Scale.AI shows that businesses supplying data to AI labs have immense future potential.
