According to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 18 Pro series will feature a new main camera with a variable aperture. Industry sources indicate that the new moving lens system will cost on average 50 percent more than the 7P lenses used in the current iPhone 17 Pro model. This is reported by Ixbt.com .
Despite the expected changes, the overall appearance of the camera system will remain familiar. Current leaks suggest that Apple will retain the triple 48-megapixel sensor system, but the biggest technical upgrade will occur specifically in the main camera.
A variable aperture allows the lens to physically regulate the amount of light hitting the sensor. This significantly improves photo quality in low-light conditions and provides better control over depth of field (bokeh effect) in bright environments.
Beyond the camera, the new smartphones are expected to debut with the next-generation Apple A20 Pro chip and an updated Camera app in iOS 27. Apple usually prefers to rely on software and computational photography rather than hardware, but this time, a physical change takes center stage.
If these reports are confirmed, the iPhone 18 Pro could offer the most significant camera upgrade in recent years. This would take the professional photography capabilities of Apple smartphones to a new level.
