On September 19, under the chairmanship of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, measures aimed at protecting children's health and promoting breastfeeding were discussed. At the meeting, it was noted that in recent years, the level of breastfeeding has decreased globally, and the consumption of various substitute products has sharply increased.
According to the World Health Organization, by 2030, at least 70% of infants under 6 months of age should be exclusively breastfed. Currently, in Uzbekistan, this figure is only 25 percent. For this purpose, the country will adopt a "National Program for Supporting Breastfeeding."
Within the program:
The WHO and UNICEF initiatives "Convenient Medical Institution for Breastfeeding" and "10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding" will be implemented.
- Medical workers will undergo special training, and educational activities will be organized for pregnant women and young mothers.
- Amendments will be made to the legislation to restrict the advertising of breast milk substitutes.
- The procedures for the production, import, and sale of baby food will also be improved.
According to the Minister of Health, Asilbek Khudayarov, in recent years, due to the active advertising of artificial baby food, it has been observed that many mothers feed their children with products of dubious origin and quality. Therefore, within the framework of the new project, the advantages of breastfeeding will be explained through large-scale information campaigns.
