In connection with the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, which will be held in Samarkand, access to the city will be temporarily closed. This was officially reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
It was reported that from October 30 to November 14 of this year, bypass roads will be organized for vehicles moving in transit through the Samarkand region. During this period, access to the city center will be temporarily restricted.
In order to facilitate traffic and create convenience for drivers, special flyers have been prepared, on which all information about detours can be viewed through the mobile application using a QR code.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated:
"If you are planning to visit Samarkand during these days, if possible, we ask you to postpone the trip to other days. These measures are being taken to ensure the safe and successful holding of a major international forum."
As a reminder, UNESCO is a specialized agency of the United Nations for education, science, and culture, and the main topics of the session cover pressing issues on a global scale. Among them are topics such as cultural heritage protection, artificial intelligence ethics, climate change and sustainable development, as well as the role of women in science.
The conference will be held at the Silk Road Samarkand tourist complex and is the first session since 1985 to be held outside Paris, where the organization's headquarters is located.
During the event, Samarkand is expected to attract global attention. Officials are taking measures to strengthen security and transport control in the city.
