The government of Uzbekistan has proposed introducing 10-year visas for its citizens from the United States of America. This initiative was put forward in response to the introduction of a visa-free regime for US citizens starting from January 1, 2026.
This proposal was announced against the backdrop of intensified bilateral relations and efforts to deepen cooperation with Washington. Komil Allamjonov, advisor to the head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, advocated for this proposal and emphasized that such a step would serve to further strengthen ties between Uzbekistan and the US.
According to the initiative, the visa-free regime for US citizens will apply for up to 30 days. This development was positively received in Washington.
US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau noted that this decision by Uzbekistan would unlock the country’s immense potential for American tourism. Komil Allamjonov also recalled that the issue of the visa-free regime for US citizens was raised by the US side during recent negotiations.
Specifically, he mentioned meetings with Christopher Landau and Sergio Gor, the US President’s Special Representative for South and Central Asia. High-level dialogue between the two countries is steadily progressing.
On October 27, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the US delegation, including Gor and Landau. During the meeting, the development of strategic partnership and implementation of previously reached agreements were discussed.
Sergio Gor conveyed the greetings of US President Donald Trump to the President of Uzbekistan. The initiative to extend the validity period of US visas of the B1/B2 category (for personal and business trips) from one year to ten years is part of a broad strategy to liberalize Uzbekistan's visa policy and enhance the country's tourist attractiveness.
In May of this year, by presidential decree, measures to significantly increase the inflow of foreign tourists were set. Among these, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was tasked with negotiating the introduction of a visa-free regime for US citizens and simplifying visas for Uzbek citizens.
Tashkent's initiative regarding 10-year visas is a logical continuation of its openness policy and is a step toward achieving parity with one of its main international partners, the United States, in visa matters. During the negotiations, Sergio Gor, the US President’s Special Representative for South and Central Asia, noted his participation and also mentioned that he was born in Tashkent.
