Tashkent to Undergo Transformation as Unified Design Code Approved

A historic document aiming to fundamentally reform Tashkent's architectural appearance and the organization of its streets has been adopted. On December 25, the People's Deputies Council of Tashkent City approved the legal and normative framework for implementing the long-awaited design code for the capital.
A new culture and international experience
The capital's new design code was developed jointly by «Citymakers International» and «Toshkent Invest» companies. This project aims to transform the city into not only a visually appealing space but also a safe and comfortable living environment.
The author of the project, «Citymakers International», has extensive experience in regulating urban environments in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and other major CIS metropolises. This expertise allows for harmonizing Tashkent's national and unique characteristics with global standards.
What does the design code regulate?
The new set of rules defines every detail of the city's appearance:
- Building facades: Harmonization of colors, selection of construction materials, and a unified style for storefronts.
- Advertising and signboards: Replacing random, chaotic banners with aesthetically pleasing boards of regulated sizes, fonts, and lighting.
- Street furniture: Setting standards for sidewalks, benches, trash bins, and streetlights.
- Historical heritage: Special emphasis on preserving the authenticity of ancient monuments and cultural objects.
What are the benefits for businesses and residents?
The implementation of the design code is not just about "appearance." This system aims to improve the entrepreneurial environment:
- Efficient and legal use of adjacent areas will be established.
- Special regimes in tourist streets will boost business activity and increase residents' income.
- A safer environment for pedestrians and vehicles will be created.
Public discussion is expected
Notably, the provisions of the document will soon be published on the regulation.gov.uz platform. Residents of the city, specialists, and activists will have the opportunity to provide their proposals and feedback.
This step toward transforming Tashkent into a modern and orderly metropolis is expected to introduce a new urban culture for the capital's inhabitants.
