Control over large financial transactions in banks to be strengthened

Supervision over large money transfers and foreign currency operations conducted through commercial banks in Uzbekistan is being further strengthened. New amendments to banks' internal control rules will come into effect on August 9, 2026.

These procedures are primarily aimed at combating money laundering, detecting suspicious financial transactions in a timely manner, and increasing transparency in the banking system. This means that customer information will be checked more thoroughly for transactions involving large sums.

One of the main changes concerns money transfers exceeding 10.3 million soums, i.e., 25 BRV. For such operations, banks will be required to provide expanded information about the sender and the recipient. This includes data such as the PINPP, account number, or a unique transaction identification code.

In addition, checks will be tightened for cash foreign currency withdrawals exceeding 206 million soums, i.e., 500 BRV. Procedures for identifying customers and assessing their operations will become stricter, especially when withdrawing cash foreign currency using cards issued by other banks.

Another important area concerns large transactions made without opening an account. For such operations starting from 175 million soums, it is mandatory to identify the participants, conduct due diligence, and assess the purpose of the transaction.

At the same time, transactions of less than 10.3 million soums will not be completely overlooked. To ensure the ability to track payment movements, banks will record the names of participants and transaction identifiers for these operations as well.

According to experts, the new requirements will serve to reduce risky financial practices in the banking system, make cash flows more transparent, and strengthen control mechanisms in line with international standards. Simply put, if you move large amounts of money, the bank will ask the questions 'who, where, and why?' more seriously.

In short, control over bank operations will become much stricter starting August 9. These procedures are seen not as an obstacle for honest customers, but as a step toward ensuring the security of the financial system. Where there is large money movement, there must be documentation and transparency — that is the demand of the times.
