Lebanon has asked Tehran to suspend flights of Iranian airlines to Beirut for security reasons, Tehran Times reported.

“The correspondence between the Iranian and Lebanese aviation regulators shows that the Lebanese have requested to suspend flights to Beirut until February 18 for security reasons. All international flights in the country have also been canceled,” said Hossein Pourfarzaneh, head of the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran.

According to him, the situation at Beirut airport is currently complex and tense, but the Iranian side is monitoring it and hopes that everything will be normal by February 18.

On February 14, Hezbollah activists blocked the road leading to Beirut International Airport after the Lebanese government decided not to accept a flight from the Iranian-owned Mahan Air airline. On Saturday night, a group of protesters attacked the guards accompanying the deputy commander of the UN peacekeeping force and burned one of their vehicles.

On February 15, at the request of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, security forces arrested 26 people in connection with the attack. The army opened all roads blocked by the protesters. The head of state promised not to allow such actions that would destabilize the situation to happen again.
