After a ceasefire agreement is reached, China may send a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine if necessary. This was stated by Zhou Bo, a senior fellow at the Center for International Security and Strategy at Tsinghua University in China and a former colonel in the Chinese army, in an interview with the Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
According to him, if the peacekeeping forces in Ukraine are not only representatives of NATO countries, but also representatives of other countries such as India, then China may also send troops.
China “has enough troops and military power” to contribute to international efforts to maintain peace after the fighting ends, Mr. Bo said. "If peacekeeping operations are carried out only by European countries, Russia may see this as another form of NATO involvement," he added.
Earlier, The Economist reported that, according to unnamed American officials, if a ceasefire agreement is reached in Ukraine, it would be good if military personnel from not only European countries but also, for example, Brazil or China participated as peacekeepers.
