Defense of Ukraine: what steps are Europe and Britain taking?

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that there is an agreement between Europe and its allies on ensuring the security of Ukraine. 30 countries have expressed their readiness to participate in this process.

“I have spoken to Europe and our allies, they are ready for security guarantees,” Macron said.

Great Britain may send troops to Ukraine

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also stressed his country's commitment to ensuring the security of Ukraine. According to him, Britain is ready to deploy troops if necessary and send Typhoon fighter jets to protect Ukrainian airspace after the war.

“The security of Ukraine helps ensure the security of our continent and our country,” Starmer said.

Why are security guarantees important for Ukraine?

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stressed the need for security guarantees to fully demonstrate confidence in the international community's agreements to end the war.

"Uncertainty is not beneficial to anyone. If Russia attacks again, everyone loses," Zelensky said.

In his opinion, Ukraine needs long-term security guarantees, otherwise the risk of Russia attacking again will remain.

France and Britain are ready to take serious steps to provide security guarantees to Ukraine.
