The text of the agreement on mineral resources between the USA and Ukraine has been published

Ukrainian media have published the text of an agreement between Ukraine and the United States on mineral resources that has been under discussion for the past few weeks. This was reported by Kommersant.

The agreement is expected to be signed during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Washington on February 28. The Ukrainian side claims that the negotiators have agreed on more favorable terms for Kiev. In particular, the United States has abandoned its demand for $ 500 billion in revenue from Ukrainian resources.

Key features of the agreement:

• The governments of Ukraine and the United States will create a jointly managed investment fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine;
  
• Ukraine will transfer 50 percent of the income from the future monetization of state natural resources (oil, gas, minerals) to the fund;
  
• The US government will support Ukraine's efforts to obtain security guarantees necessary for peace;
  
• The parties to the agreement will agree to determine steps to protect mutual investments;
  
• The US and Ukrainian working groups will begin preparing a draft agreement regulating the activities of the investment fund.
  

Earlier, Ukraine rejected previous versions of the agreement, objecting to the amount of compensation set by the United States. Kiev also demanded that the agreement include a clause on security guarantees, but the final text did not mention Washington's obligations in this regard.
