After US President Donald Trump demanded the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip, Hamas responded to his words. Al Arabiya reported.
Hamas spokesman Abdul-Latif al-Qanua criticized the US leader's statement, saying that such threats meant supporting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and tightening the siege on Gaza.
HAMAS: "The peace agreement must be implemented"
Abdul-Latif al-Qanua stressed that the most effective way to release the hostages is to move to the second phase of the peace agreement. According to him, it is necessary to implement the agreement signed under the auspices of the mediators.
The peace deal, which came into effect in January, was negotiated by a US envoy and the outgoing Biden administration. The first phase of the deal expired on March 2, but Israel has since blocked humanitarian aid from entering Gaza and has demanded that Hamas release the remaining hostages before engaging in war talks.
The restrictions could increase the risk of starvation among Gaza's 2.3 million people, analysts say.
Trump's stark threat
Trump issued a final warning to Hamas:
"The choice is yours. Release all hostages now, without delay, and return the bodies of those killed immediately, or it will be very bad for you. If you don't do what I say, not a single Hamas member will survive. I am sending Israel everything it needs to finish this job."
Trump appealed to the people of Gaza to release the hostages, warning that otherwise they would face dire consequences:
"To the people of Gaza: you have a wonderful future ahead of you, but you will not have it if you keep holding the hostages."
Trump continues military aid to Israel
According to reports, Donald Trump has sent $12 billion in military aid to Israel in 42 days. Despite the US president's suspension of foreign aid programs, he continues to support Israel militarily.
On March 3, Trump announced a decision to suspend military aid to Ukraine. This caused heated debate in the international arena.
The tense relations between Hamas and the US and the disagreement over peace talks could further complicate the situation in the Gaza Strip. So far, the parties have not been able to reach a compromise, and this dispute is also gaining considerable attention in the international arena. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
